Which Diseases Is The Pharmaceutical Industry Focusing On Today?
Check Out The Pharma’s Most Wanted Patients List From Rare Patient Voice
TOWSON, MD, October 4, 2022 – For the first time, leading patient and family caregiver recruitment firm Rare Patient Voice LLC today revealed its Pharma’s Most Wanted Patients list. The list represents the disease areas of most current interest as reflected by the number of requests Rare Patient Voice has received for study respondents over the past year.
“At Rare Patient Voice, clients come to us to recruit rare and non-rare disease patients and family caregivers for all types of research, from market research and user experience studies to clinical trials. We have a panel of over 100,000 and growing, covering more than 700 diseases and conditions,” said Wes Michael, president and founder of Rare Patient Voice. “This puts us in the unique position of having our finger on the pulse of the diseases and conditions that are the focus of the most upcoming studies.”
The following rankings reflect those disease areas most requested for patients and/or family caregivers to take part in studies over the past 12 months:
1 | Diabetes |
2 | Cancer (type not specified) |
3 | Chronic Kidney DIsease |
4 | Hemophilia |
5 | Multiple Sclerosis |
6 | Breast Cancer |
7 | Heart Disease |
8 | Alzheimer’s Disease |

Of the 9,000 requests Rare Patient Voice received for nearly 400 different diseases and conditions, the list of 20 represents the diseases and conditions for which we received the most requests for information, project bids, and active studies from August 2021 – August 2022. This ranking provides a bird’s eye view of diseases being studied, treatments in development, and how serious companies are about marketing those treatments to patients. It can be considered an index of the top patient-oriented disease categories. It also bears noting that seven diseases on the list are rare (multiple myeloma, multiple sclerosis, hemophilia, myasthenia gravis, sickle cell disease, ulcerative colitis, and spinal muscular atrophy), which is reflective of the pharmaceutical industry’s increasing focus on rare diseases.
“We look forward to sharing more data and brief analysis in upcoming versions of the Pharma’s Most Wanted Patients rankings in which we will examine the list on a monthly basis, and look at which diseases have moved up and down in the rankings,” said Michael.
