“Our baby boy Cameron Thomas Reinhold was born on December 16, 2024 at 8:48 pm weighing 6 pounds 14 ounces and 19 inches long. I had a smooth first time pregnancy and doctors had zero cause for concern as I have no preexisting medical conditions. On 12/16 at 40 weeks, 4 days I was induced and delivery went according to plan, no complications – mom and Cam were healthy. Only issue with Cam was they monitored his temperature every 4 hours, his temp. dipped low a few times. The staff chalked it up to ‘environmental’ and common issue for newborns so Cam’s glucose was never tested. On 12/18 we were discharged from the hospital and returned home that afternoon. While at home only a few hours later Cam unexpectedly stopped breathing. My husband Ben and I called 911, started CPR and emergency services came. Unfortunately, Cam could not be revived and declared dead in the ER. We recently learned through his newborn infant screening that Cam had extremely elevated levels of C8. Afterwards through genetic testing, Cam was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called MCADD which is probable cause of his sudden death – hypoglycemia due to MCADD.
We are still trying to process everything that occurred and have many questions for the hospital to do our due diligence if any signs/symptoms (i.e. temperature instability) were missed in Cam’s case. Our goal now is to advocate for MCADD patients in any way possible.”
