Weekly Warrior: Meet Dani

March 17, 2022 Laura Mullen

Four images of a young woman with medical tubes on parts of her body.

“Hi, my name is Dani @d_liz_m and I have gastroparesis, intestinal dysmotility and dysautonomia among other things. I was diagnosed around 6-7 years ago. It could of been longer who knows I lost track of time. Due to how severe my gastroparesis is I am on TPN (total parental nutrition) as well as IV fluids. Along with a Hickman I also have a g tube and j tube as well as a gastric stimulator. I have tried many medications and diets. Also tried tube feeds. Which I failed (I can’t get the rate high enough to sustain myself). But that is not stopping me from trying and moving forward.

Despite my illness I do work. I try my hardest to accomplish all my dreams, some I know I may never accomplish but I am going to keep trying. I work as a medical receptionist and I am also a part time manager at a children’s clothing store.

I am writing this as I sit in the hospital with yet another blood stream infection. They are treating it but my line has to be pulled. I am on iv antibiotics to help get me infection free. I have to be infection free for 48-72 hours before they can place a new line. Having a line comes with its risks as you can see and it is a last resort. I would love to be off tpn and just on tube feeds but my body is just not having it. Feel free to reach out to me at anytime, my dm is always open.”
