As of January 1, 2023, for new studies the honorarium for patients and family caregivers is $120 per hour.
What are our response rates? Clients ask this, as they need to know not just how many patients we have, but how many they can expect to participate in their studies.
For the vast majority of our panel, our response rate averages 50%. We’ve recruited many of them in person at patient events, and explained the process to them. They get a gift card for signing up, so they look forward to our email invitations. Since they’ve signed up specifically to take part in studies, they respond well. And we reward them with incentives of $100 per hour of their time. In fact, we hear from panelists haven’t been invited to a study recently!
For many of our cancer patients, the response rate averages 20%. These patients are from our wonderful partner, WhatNext.com. These patients have joined WhatNext to share questions and experiences, and though they have opted in for research, that is not the reason they signed up. And, unfortunately, as lethal as many cancers are, we certainly lose patients, and we aren’t always informed quickly of that. For those reasons the response rates are lower, but still a respectable 20%.
We include response rates in all of our proposals. And don’t forget, you need to overlay incidence rates as well to determine the total feasibility.
