Helping Patients and Caregivers Voice Their Opinions

The Price is Right!

September 11, 2017 Wes Michael

Have you ever been involved in an intense discussion with a friend only to learn that they have no idea what you are talking about?  In conversation, we make assumptions about what the listener knows and build our conversation from there.  The problem is that our assumptions are often incorrect and misunderstandings can lead to anger, frustration or even worse, loss of revenue!

This was illustrated brilliantly last week when speaking to a client who has worked with Rare Patient Voice on many occasions.  We know her well and she is a pretty-smart cookie.  During the discussion, it became apparent that our pricing and processes were not at all clear to her.  In fact, even though she had seen the word “handover” in our proposal, she really did not know what it meant.  Wow!  How many of our clients might also be unclear?

The good news is we are transparent about our methods and pricing! So, let’s make them clear:

1) How do we build our panel?  We go out to healthcare events such as walks and conferences where we meet patients and caregivers and invite them to join our panel.  These patients then help us by recruiting patients they know. The result is over 60,000 patients/caregivers.

2) What is our pricing? Our honoraria rate is constant at $100 per hour for TDIs and online surveys ($150 for an in-person IDI). Our recruiting rate is $200 per complete per TDI ($300 for in-person IDI) and $40 for online surveys (lower for higher quantities). Our recruiting rate does not change at different incidence rates. Remember, the recruiting fee is what pays for us to go out to 200+ patients events per year to meet and recruit authentic patients and caregivers. Please feel free to use these rates when you need a ballpark price!

Activity TDI/IDI Online Survey
Option 1: Standard Set-up (fixed) RPV programs screener and scheduling tool $1,250 $500
Option 2: Handover* Set-up (fixed) RPV does not program screener or scheduling tool $250 NA
Recruiting (per complete) $200 ($300 in-person) $40
Honoraria $100 (60 min TDI) ($150 in-person) $50 (30mins)
Incentive Processing $10 $5
*RPV does 2-3 question screening and hands over potential respondents to client for complete screening and scheduling.

3) What is a handover?  If a client has already engaged another recruiter and needs our help, or needs respondents in only a few days, and if we are only expecting to obtain a small number of respondents, we don’t need to incur the time and expense of programming a screener and scheduling tool. In this case, we offer what we term a “handover.“  Rare Patient Voice will reach out to the panel and ask 2-3 initial screening questions, then we will hand over the contact information of those who initially qualify and are interested in participating to you for full screening and scheduling.  We can typically launch these quickly and start providing respondents the next day. The advantage of a handover is, of course, you save time and money.

Is there something else you want to know about Rare Patient Voice?  If so, send me an email and I will be happy to clarify!  Good communication is the key to success!
