Nicole’s daughter and son, who has Autism and Fragile X Syndrome, were both victims of sexual abuse. As a mother suffering through this unbelievable nightmare, Nicole witnessed extreme differences in the justice system in terms of how her daughter was believed and treated so well and how her son was not. In addition, she recognized the distinct differences in recovery, trying to find support and resources. Nicole and her daughter Maci founded Voices of Change 2018 (VOC18), a nonprofit organization, to begin making much-needed change for children with disabilities and their families.
VOC18 is a disability-led national organization piloting our groundbreaking programs in Ohio. Their mission is to reduce the risk of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of children with disabilities. By sharing their lived experiences and through collaborations with law enforcement, mental health, medical professionals, and other similar organizations, they are building a foundation of advocacy, awareness, education, resources, and support for children with disabilities and their families.
