Thank you for participating in Health Union’s 2024 In America survey!
Your experiences help us better understand what it is really like to live with challenging health conditions, as well as the types of information and support that patients and caregivers are looking for. As a token of our appreciation, we wanted to share a few insights from the survey below. And stay tuned for an invite to the 2025 In America survey!
Most respondents are living with more than one health condition: Of the over 125 health conditions we asked about, respondents were diagnosed with an average of 8 conditions. 63% have been diagnosed with a cardiovascular condition, 60% with an autoimmune disease, and 34% with cancer.
Symptoms often extend beyond “formal” diagnoses: More than 1 in 5 have experienced anxiety, chronic pain, depression, insomnia, or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms without a diagnosis.
The impact of living with challenging health conditions can take a toll on quality of life: Only 26% of respondents describe their current quality of life as “excellent” or “very good”.
Most (84%) of respondents are using online information resources to learn about/manage their health: This includes 58% who use condition-specific websites and 56% who use general internet searches.
Respondents participate in a range of hobbies: Most common hobbies/interests include watching movies/TV and browsing the internet, with nearly ½ who say they enjoy listening to music/attending concerts, reading, and cooking/baking.
